First off i would like to extend my gratitude to those of you who took the time out to obsever my ideas.

My name is Dariel Haddock, when i was first arrested i told a friend of mine," I just hope people dont forget about me while I'm gone", she responded "then do something that they'll remember you forever for". I believe art is something that can stand the test of time with the right passion and expression. Growing up art was a form of expression and a passion of mines. When I get these creative ideas and they start flowing I feel a sense of peace and tranquility. I'm grateful for this opportunity to share my creativity with you all and i hope that you enjoy it.

   I spent most of my young years on the streets because that's what was in my blood; not trouble, but roaming. In the 90s I turned 17. And knowing the boy's home I was in would soon turn me loose for good, I ran away. 

     Back on the streets, I stayed with a dude who showed me how to use a homemade tatoo gun. Like many beginning tatt artists, I found no shortage of people willing to be my scratch pad and, before I knew it, I found myself in a real tatoo shop, using a real gun.

     In 2008 I came to prison with a life sentence, immediately tried to escape, and ended up in ad-seg. So now I have all the time in the world to practice one of the things I love most: learning to speak without words. 

     I regret that I wasn't so serious about art in the past, but I am now! It is the only freedom I will ever know and I am acutely aware that I will die in this place, among complete strangers. But for now, I silently sing on paper. 

     Life in prison can be dark and cold. There have been many around me who chose suicide as their escape--dying in the darkest and coldest of earthly experiences. 

     Drawing and painting are the things that keep me here, waiting. When i pick up my pencil, I rarely know what will end up on the paper, but mostly it is what's in me that comes through. It is sometimes the stuff of dreams and nightmares that cling to me, with a nostalgia too deep for words.

     This is the place from where my art comes. It is my journal, my soul; my last will and testament...my suicide note to the world.

I have worked as a visual artist for the past thirty-six years, exhibiting in galleries throughout the United States. I've spent my career mainly working in the medians of drawing, sculpture, painting and print-making. I studied all these mediums as an art student for many years from Chicago to Paris to the Ivory Coast. As an artist, I was open-minded in the Arts. I still don't know which I love more so here I have put some of my work so you can tell me. My work has hidden marks as being as it being my pieces from visual being in the 1/2 common view.
